MILPITAS, Calif., and HSINCHU, Taiwan, January 22, 2014 - Building on its commitment to developing high-performance, customer oriented solutions, PROMISE Technology Inc. celebrates 25 years of innovation and leadership in the storage industry. Founded in San Jose, California by CEO James Lee, PROMISE has transitioned from a storage component designer and manufacturer to one of the industry's leading developers of storage solutions for the cloud/IT, rich media, and video surveillance markets.

In its early days, PROMISE developed Cache Disk Controllers which were produced in its manufacturing facilities in Taiwan. A significant breakthrough came for PROMISE in 1993 when it developed the world's first VESA IDE chipset which captured 90% of the market by 1994. In 1997, PROMISE developed the world's first ATA RAID controller which was installed in nine out of ten of motherboards produced by the industry's top manufacturers.

PROMISE Technology was listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (3057:Taiwan) in 2002 and in order to better meet the needs of its customers the company transitioned from designing and manufacturing components to developing storage systems. As PROMISE was recruiting to build a foundation for its new strategy, IBM was selling off one of its RAID teams and PROMISE acquired several senior engineers and managers to serve as a building block of its storage system engineering department. By 2005, PROMISE released the VTrak M-Class, its first iSCSI and Fibre Channel RAID subsystem. In 2007, PROMISE launched the VTrak E-Class RAID subsystem which soon became the Fibre Channel storage product of choice for the world's leading rich media companies. This paved the way for many more high-performance storage products from PROMISE for rich media professionals, such as Pegasus and Pegasus2, the world's first Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 storage enclosures.

PROMISE began another significant transformation in its history in 2010 as it began its progression to a storage solutions developer by creating customer oriented solutions that integrated hardware and software, including the VTrak A-Class SAN filesystem solution which was launched in 2013.

Over the next five years PROMISE commits to developing cloud based distributed and scalable object and block storage platforms which will be increasingly integrated with its solutions for rich media, video surveillance, data centers and IT. Additionally, PROMISE will start to offer efficient enterprise-level file synchronizing and sharing cloud solutions for the government, education markets, and application specific cloud storage solutions for today's leading businesses. Previously, PROMISE's storage solutions for the rich media market were primarily deployed in post-production environments, however, by working closely with the world's leading software vendors PROMISE looks to expand and build on its solutions to target backup, archiving, content delivery and asset management solutions. In video surveillance, PROMISE is already working very closely with industry leading VMS companies in preparation for the next generation of surveillance storage solutions which will be highly customizable to meet the unique demands of its customers.
