HSINCHU, Taiwan, and SON, Netherlands - March 17, 2015 - My Little Eye are an independent, creative production company based in the UK who specialize in editing multicam music shows and performances. My Little Eye, and its director/editor Jonathan Walton, have worked on shows for Channel 4, ITV1, Sundance Channel and NBC with a host of high profile artists including The Killers, David Bowie, Green Day, Kings of Leon and David Gilmour. For the company's latest project, Jazz at Metropolis, My Little Eye wanted to do everything in 4K and needed a high-performance editing solution that could be used both on set and in the edit suite. My Little Eye turned to Thunderbolt 2 solutions for their Windows workflow from HP, including Z820 Workstations and ZBook 15 and ZBook 17 Mobile Workstations, with Pegasus2 R8 RAID storage from PROMISE Technology.

The new show represented the first time Walton's team worked on a full 4K show from shoot to final delivery. The main challenge Walton faced was how to cope with the considerable amount of footage when shooting six one hour episodes in 4K. When shooting in the XAVC (4096 x 2160) codec on three Sony F55s, each single episode of this show generated between 800GB - 1TB of raw material. My Little Eye therefore needed to use a storage system that could not only handle rushes of this size, but also a system with the capability of high transfer speeds to help the team complete data transfer duties on shoot days. The Thunderbolt 2 solutions from HP and PROMISE delivered.

"The solutions from PROMISE and HP have been nothing short of a revelation. On shoot days we use both of our Pegasus2 R8 systems on set to perform data transfer and backup duties connected to HP ZBook 15 and HP ZBook 17 Mobile Workstations with Thunderbolt 2. Back at the edit suite we run the edits from the Pegasus2 R8s in Adobe Premiere Pro CC on the HP Z820 Workstations," said Walton. "The speed is amazing and it saves us so much time. Without these solutions, working on a 4K show like this would be almost impossible for us."

"Playback is amazing not only on the HP Z820 Workstations but also on the ZBook 15 and 17 Mobile Workstations which is awesome since we can do so much more on set than ever before," continued Walton. "We're so happy with the speed and performance of the Pegasus2 R8s that it now seems like a major inconvenience when we have to use any of our other drives when returning to our older projects. It's easy to become accustomed to the incredibly fast transfer speeds and take for granted the time these systems save us on a day to day basis," continued Walton.

"The combination of PROMISE Pegasus2 connected to HP Z Workstations on Thunderbolt 2 is a great win for creative professionals who want to work more efficiently as the systems work seamlessly allowing users to experience the full potential and all of the benefits of the amazing solutions," said John van den Elzen, Managing Director, PROMISE Technology EMEA. "The entire Pegasus2 series is approved and tested for Windows on Thunderbolt and are ideally suited to HP Z Workstations as together they enable creative professionals to build an amazing editing system."
